ZERO ADJUST

ANALOG METERS have an Ohms Adjust knob that allows you to set the meter to zero resistance when the probes are crossed. Digital meters rarely incorporate this adjustment, so always cross the probes of a digital meter first before taking a resistance measurement to determine the internal resistance caused by the leads and fuse. It is normally tiny, on the order of 0.4 ohms, but it will prevent a zero ohms reading even on a perfect conductor.
